We are still having overheating problems with the transit based engine in a boat.
We have a spare 70ps engine which are told is a good runner the question is could we exchange the engines and fit all the marine parts, turbo, intercooler & yellow spot injectors?? Not sure if the old engine has uprated pistons, bearings etc.
If we do change the engines would it be better to swap the fuel pumps? or will it be easy to adjust the pump on the new engine to handle the extra power.
Any advice greatly appreciated.Hi
Spend the last weeks reading each and every post that could help me fix my problems. Great forum ! Excellent source of information !
Now here is my challenge:
Im' sitting in far far away Malaysia with a '97 Transit made in the U.K., fitted with a 2.5 DI diesel, 4HB, banana type.
Got this beauty at an auction. Body still in perfect condition, but one crankshaft journal has a lot of cracks. No point assembling again. The last 7 month I searched half the peninsular for a crankshaft replacement, found 5 engines, but all with the same crankshaft problem.
But maybe today was my lucky day. Found a scrap metal dealer with 2 Ford engines used in agiculture :
Ford FSD 425 , manufactured '86. In-line pump and head differ, of course, but block looks so familiar, bore, stroke, ccs, compression, are reportedly the same. Any chance ?
Maybe I can use this crankshaft in my 4 HB. Any help on this is dearly appreciated.
Don't let me walk in the blistering heat any longer !
Public transport sucks and the taxi drivers here in Penang are among the worst in whole of Malaysia.

The current engine is basically a transit engine marinised by Mermaid Marine with a turbo & intercooler added rated at 130HP but we are not sure what base engine they have used.We have a spare 70ps engine which are told is a good runner the question is could we exchange the engines and fit all the marine parts, turbo, intercooler & yellow spot injectors?? Not sure if the old engine has uprated pistons, bearings etc.
